I’m Melinda Bartling, Realtor, Home Stager, Downsizing Consultant, speaker, founder of Shed Chic Studio, and creator of Maximalist Downsizing and the Third Chapter Method.
My work didn’t start with a business plan. It grew out of nearly 40 years of listening to what people needed next.
I started in real estate. Home staging became a natural extension of helping my sellers get better results. Then I began working with more and more baby boomers who were trying to figure out what to do with homes filled with decades of life.
Along the way, I downsized twice myself and learned firsthand that changing your home can change much more than your address.
Today, all those years of experience come together in the work I do with people who are selling, staging, downsizing, staying put, or simply trying to figure out their next step.
The house may be where the conversation starts. It isn’t always where it ends.

Downsizing isn’t about getting rid of everything you love.
I know. I’ve done it twice.
My approach is Maximalist Downsizing: living large in less space with the things you truly love.
But before you start sorting closets or ordering a dumpster, there’s often a much bigger question to answer:

After nearly four decades in this business, I certainly know a lot about houses.
