Hello Home Sellers – the Holidays are Over! Let’s Get the House Back to Showtime!
Yesterday while I was showing houses in Overland Park, I was amazed by how many home sellers still hadn’t finished putting their things away from the holidays. Hello? It’s mid January and your house is on the market. What’s the problem? Have you no sense of “showtime?”
When selling a home in today’s market, you’ve got to be the best you can be every day of the process. You never know when “your buyer” is going to walk through the front door. And for you not to be ready is no excuse. You are sabotaging your chances of ever selling your home.
Can buyers look past the Christmas tree or the miscellaneous decorations around the house? Do they not see the Christmas wreath hanging on the front door? Fact is, all of these things are a distraction to the buyer. They want to be able to see themselves living there, hanging out, inviting friends over, and cooking family dinners on Sunday night. But when they walk into a house that distracts them from their dreams, they back off a bit and can’t quite get the feeling that they need to see themselves living there. Instead of commenting on the awesome kitchen they could see themselves enjoying, they are busy talking about the Christmas decorations.
You see, buyers don’t get that you as the seller, still have a life to live in that house on the market. Nor do they care. They are only thinking of themselves when it comes to buying their dream home. You’ve got to learn to think like those buyers so you can help them buy your home. You must understand that they don’t know how great your home is. All they know is there are a lot of homes to choose from and you’ve got to step up to the plate and help them decide yours is the one for them. So, if you’ve still got Christmas lurking around your house, get busy and get that stuff packed up. You’ve got one chance to make a first impression. Hello home sellers – now is the time! Stop sabotaging your chances of selling your home.
