Overland Park Décor Trends: Subway Tile in Showers
Subway tile is all the rage in Overland Park new construction and I’m seeing it more and more in resale homes for sale. It’s a classic look and hugely versatile in style. It’s extremely popular with homeowners and home buyers looking for the latest in kitchen and bathroom options. It’s especially effective in showers.
The subway tiles are smaller and are rectangular in shape than other tiles we’ve seen in the past. They can be used in a variety of designs from the most simple to a herringbone or chevron patterned design. You can find these subway tiles everywhere from home improvement stores to local tile distributors.
Finding the right tile you like is the first step. Coming up with a pattern you like can take it to a whole new level of design. What else are you using alongside the subway tiles? It’s like any countertop and backsplash project. The two must go together so don’t make a huge mistake with a top that doesn’t go with a bottom. Beware of people selling you something you’re not seeing yourself – sometimes they are just trying to sell product. I’ve seen horrible scenarios of unsuspecting homeowners choosing the wrong paint, carpet, granite, etc. because they were “sold” something that didn’t look good – especially together.
Remember when doing anything like tile work that can be fairly permanent and costly to change, don’t get carried away with things. Do what you like with the thought of resale in the back of your mind. What might appeal to you today might not appeal to your buyers should you have to sell.
If you need help with selections, please call me at (913) 515-3250. I’ll be glad to stop by and make sure you aren’t making a costly mistake you may regret later.
