Refreshing Your Overland Park Master Bedroom
Everybody wants the model home look yet few people are able to achieve it and live that way. Of all the homes I see every day, most master bedrooms are naturally very practical and yet often a bit boring. It doesn’t take much to liven up your master bedroom though. Take a look around yours. What don’t you like about the way it looks? What needs to change? Could it use a little refreshing?
Last week I listed a home for sale that needed a lot of refreshing to be able to sell it in today’s market. The sellers were 83 years old and hadn’t bought much for their home since the 1970’s. One of my skills is having the right eye to be able to turn even a drab existence into something that will sell quickly. You can see a few of their home’s before and after photos in a short musical slideshow here.
The first thing I did was to bring in fresh, new bedding and pillows to dress up the bed in the master bedroom. Their furniture was older (from the ‘70’s). Starting with the bed which was the room’s focal point, I chose the perfect color scheme for their bedding. The walls were light blue so the comforter not only incorporated the blue from the walls, it added a punch of bright orange to give the room a facelift. I added large square pillows at the head of the bed to create a headboard effect and built that up with smaller pillows of various shapes, patterns and sizes.
New lamps flanked the nightstands along with more current, colorful accessories. Last but not least was adding a little art work to the walls. By moving extra furniture out of the room, it made the room more spacious (good for selling or dwelling). Instead of wall to wall heavy furniture, I used some colorful framed canvas art and trendy metallic pieces that allowed the room to breathe.
In essence, I created another “Now to WOW!” home selling success makeover. The house sold with multiple offers within 8 hours and for way over asking price. See the marketing slideshow here.
When was the last time you gave your master bedroom a refreshing makeover? You don’t have to spend a fortune to create a new look but a little effort on your part will be well worth it.
Here are my 3 best tips for refreshing your master bedroom:
- Buy new bedding. That alone will make a huge difference.
- Add some decorative pillows in different patterns and shapes to your bed.
- Change your lamps on your nightstands or buy new shades for your current ones.
Create a small budget, go on a thrifty shopping spree and refresh your master bedroom. You’ll be amazed at how much better it will make you feel. That’s why I call it “Amazing Rearranging.”
