Trending in Overland Park Home Design

The Spring Parade of Homes may be over, but what’s trending in Overland Park home design will linger for awhile. There were a few takeaways after seeing the new homes but the one thing that I saw over and over was the color gray. It was prevalent not only on the walls but also on kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities and on doors throughout the homes. The shades ranged from a medium tone to deeper gray and when paired with white woodwork, it was stunning! Some of the hardware was black, some nickel but I loved it all.

Gray in resale homes

My client, Hilarie, who is moving here from Colorado next month bought a resale house in Olathe with gray kitchen cabinets. As soon as we entered the house, we knew it was the home for her. It was that 10 second rule falling into perfect place.

Take a chance with your Overland Park home design

I know the color gray is not for everyone, but I think over time it will grow on you. I’m seeing it more often in resale homes but it’s everywhere in new home construction.

The best home builders and their designers know what’s up and coming for our local real estate market. Many of them spend time travelling to trend setting cities to capture the essence of what’s happening in new construction. I think gray will end up replacing the trend of dark brown – especially for the kitchen cabinets.

As my son says, “As soon as he gets his home updated, the trend changes again.” What fun would home be without change? Why not take a chance with gray in a small way. Maybe paint a half bath vanity and see if you love it. If you don’t love it you can always change it back later. Or if you’re still a lover of Johnson County Beige, you might try greige. There are so many options to choose from.
